After a day pottering around at home, catching up on the ironing, that I can never get to the bottom of, at 3pm it was time to go to school, pick up Charlie, hand him over to his Dad & attend a parents meeting about the recently implemented Read Write Inc literacy scheme.
I arrived at the door with Grace, collected Charlie, explained what was going on to him & off he went to the car with Grace. I explained to his teacher that I was there for the meeting, she then announced that I was the only parent who would be attending!
I understand that people have work or other commitments but for nobody other than me to turn up, shocked me! The teaching staff didn't have to do this for parents, but did so that the children will benefit if parents are aware of this new approach, if we as parents know the new teaching methods it all helps us to help our children in turn!
I felt so bad for the school, as a presentation, YouTube video of how it's taught & refreshments were all laid on, was it really too much bother not to come and see how much the school is trying to help all the children?
It is bad but I think it happens in most schools - we don't tend to get big turn outs for meetings like that either. I try to go but not always possible. Our school has started doing Them with a creche sometimes which makes it easier.
ReplyDeleteA creche is a great idea! This school is in special measures at the moment & really needs parents to support these new initiatives, hopefully in the future this will all click into place!
